Our Story: SpendSmart.org – Chapter I
In 2009, and right after the economic meltdown of the U.S. economy, the Founder, Jeff Morris, like others, were experiencing difficult financial times. Jeff eventually filed for bankruptcy; determined not to let a difficult financial circumstance define him, Jeff embarked on a journey to financial recovery. He was soon asked to help others navigate these waters. From that pain, SpendSmart.org, an educational 501 (c) 3 was born.
SpendSmart.org focused on coaching and providing financial literacy training workshops. Soon, this endeavor got the attention of community-based organizations, churches, corporations, and corporate executives. Jeff and his associate, Dr. Gregory A. Spencer, work together resulted in them developing and writing over 20+ workshops on financial literacy and personal finance.
After years of research and practical application in the lives of their participants Jeff and Dr. Greg came to the conclusion that making smart "life" and "money" choices was a complex issue that required a comprehensive, holistic, and personalized approach. Due to the expanding needs and after 18 months of research, DreamSmart Academy, LLC was formed in July, 2017 as a state and federally recognized Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise, (DVBE), and as a Minority Business Enterprise, (MBE).
Our Story: DreamSmart Academy, LLC – Chapter II
As a disabled Marine veteran, Jeff Morris was asked to form DreamSmart Academy, LLC, (DSA). This organization is an award-winning state and federally certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise, (DVBE). Other certifications include being a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), and Small Business Enterprise (SBE). These certifications and programs have allowed DSA to create curriculum, workshops, and outreach to support K-12 students, college students, young adults, seniors, community-based organizations, associations, and businesses.
The DreamSmart Academy, (DSA) is a performance enhancing, behavioral based, socially conscious, online coaching and wellness curriculum. The DSA wellness curriculum aligns student’s and learner’s body, mind, soul, and finances. DreamSmart Academy calls this alignment HarMone©. The alignment of body, mind, soul, and finances optimizes student’s/learner’s abilities to be productive in the real world. Through consistent practice of HarMone© students/learners have the best possible chance to make their dreams and goals a reality.
The DreamSmart Academy courseware is a blueprint to equip students/learners with the soft skills needed but often overlooked in a students/learners whole person development.
